:DDD

have a really really really GOOD CRIT.
will elaborate later tonight :)

Saturday, November 13

a couple of things

got my own pillow (since that person that still have some of my other stuff seem to have disappeared). also, an extra blanket cause it's been cold and I guess it will work out when family comes over. It's green, and 100%cotton :D

Ok. Other updates:

Was walking around SF to photograph for the next project. Started off somewhere that I was completely unfamilliar with to end up at Fisherman's Wharf! LOLs. Anyway, nutcracker (ballet) is showing this winter break. So, hm.... nutcracker or de young? Hmm Hm Hmm...

And yeah. I think i'm pretty sure that i'm taking screen printing vs interactive 2 next semester. Also heard that there will be new packaging design and type classes. Sigh. On one hand, its great opportunity to take these classes that weren't offered prior to this. The downside of it, being that I will have to set my priorities again.

To be, or not to be

Allright... thus far, I've been told that I'd get far within the program if I continue with this level of dedication. However, sometimes I begin to wonder, just exactly how true is that? Nevertheless, I am not going to deny that with more commitment comes better work.

Back to work

updates

volunteered for a design event called "cut and paste" yesterday. was good stuff... met with professionals, exchanged conversations and all. then, earlier today, went to do grocery shopping... as usual, got lots of stuff, cheap. Wonder how long this round will last me :))) And I bought my favorite tofu-fish-thingi too :))) Then, when I came home, open the e-mail... found out that I will need to visit 2 museums by thursday... and prepared to present my research to the class *dang* <-- one of the sites was the very same museum that I was at yesterday. ANYHOO's its a funky museum, and I totally wouldn't mind going to look at things. Problem being that I have arranged for an outing tomorrow to burning man <-- another cool thing that's also going on in SF. Hopefully I could do all 3 sites at one go (the second museum's 2 mins away from the first one). OR I could take a risk and try the 2nd option of the assignment, that is to create an agit-prop poster...

should probably start working on some of my homework soon...

will update about the icecream, cookies and random stuff after I get back from my adventure tomorrow

Crit: symbols

So, I had my final crits for the symbols that we've been working on for almost 5 weeks now. Neh... it went ok. There's 2 that were strong... one of which still needed work. The last one wasn't resolved (apparently it's a tough one). Anyway, apart from being a little disappointed that I wasn't able to refine it well enough, I was commended on having the most terrific process in the entire class. I guess, kudos for that? Instructor mentioned that it was important as we'll be trained to do well executing designs along the way, and encouraged me to keep sketching (like mad) and that it will be an asset (somewhat) in my future practices.

That's all I have for now.

Back to readings, cooking and sleeping? :)

Tuesday, October 5

might as well

okay... its almost 2 in the morning, and i'm (maybe) half way through my type assignment. Figured I might as well do a little blogging before I continue with my work. So, how's classes etc --> very fun, and demanding at the same time. For example, I have a set of symbols (logos) due this Thursday. I've had fun trying to figure out the concept and everything. It was also a pleasant surprise to see how the inkings turn out when scaled down (seriously, I almost cried of joy - just that I have another complex one to finish before I consider myself, done-done for this symbol project). OK. The only complain that I have (really) is the part where we are expected to mount the stuff into some sort of black board (which I have purchase, and have tried to scale it the right size - sucks) that is super hard to trim down. That totally got on my nerves. Also, it seems to me that I am beginning to feel the "effects" of 4 studios and a lecture. I want to believe that I will get used to it, just so I am myself, convinced that I can plan for 4 studios and a lecture for every coming semesters.

In short, learning a lot, sleeping a little... having a great time!

Hard work paid off

On a similar topic, here's what I have planned out for the coming semesters:

SP 2011
Graphic Design 2
Type 2
Interactive 2
UDISC - Data bending
VISST*

SU 2012
Internship*

FA 2011
Graphic Design 3 *Junior Review
Type 3 *Junior Review
Motion Graphics/ Interactive 3*
Screen Printing
VISST*

SP 2012
Graphic Design 4
Type 4
Investigative Studio
Letterpress / Interactive 3*
VISST*

SU 2012
Internship*

FA 2012
Graphic Design 5
Transitions
Internship*

*VISST depends on time slots (3 courses required)
** Interactive 3 depends on what's covered and whether or not it'll be introduced at the end of the day. Preference to motion graphics and interactive 3, to screen printing and letterpress.

If I can survive all the above (and do well), I'm godly :)))

Perhaps you're right. I will never be happy. However, I still want to believe that I am more than a money-minded-empty-shell. I too, have aspirations. I too, want to live up to expectations. It is very unfair for you to speak of me like that. After all, we are two very different individuals. You, being the the beloved while myself, being the outcast. You speak of the care and love that they have given me. You speak of my oversensitivity. And now, you speak of my money-mindedness. Perhaps, I am like what's been describe. However, I stick to my principle when it comes to money. And if that, to you, makes me a heartless person, then be it.

I am very hurt. And you should be glad for I am still bothered to even rant about it.

Monday, May 3

Anyway...

I was at the cinema when (assuming that it is) baba called. SORRY. Was at SF most of yesterday to do some shopping for you know who. Will be there again at the Golden Gate Park/Japanese Tea Garden and Walt Disney Museum today. Then towards the end of the day, Kavita will be dropping me off at the airport.

It's going to be a LONG LONG flight.

Updates

Flight is going to be on May 4 (Thursday), arriving afternoon on the following day. Will be coming back to California Sept 1.

Housing is going to be settled by housemates*. Having said that, I won't be putting a deposit for on-campus housing. Just because it would be a lot cheaper to live out, with more space

School has come to a point where everything feels like it's not going too well. If you know me well enough, you'll probably understand that it is normally unnecessary stress that I impose on myself.

*About the housemates: there are currently two options. First being that I will be moving in with 3 other girls (if the other girl decides not to). Second option is for me to move in with one other girl (one of the 3 girls from option 1). Headache. Argh

Anyway, with school, I have been getting less than desirable grades. It is not like I am failing or anything. Like I mentioned earlier, it's probably just me, trying to score all the way through. Anyway, I've got to try to cheer up because it almost always makes a huge difference in the work that I produce.

Pre-registration for classes next semester is tomorrow. I have decided to add in another studio on top of the 3 fixed ones (GD 1, Type 1 and Tools1*). There is a possibility that I will test out of Tools 1 and register for Tools 2 instead. I will have to sit for a test first week of school (remind me to write to the Chair so that she can help me contact the teacher that I will need to meet for the test). In the event that Tools 2 is full, I will try getting in a screen printing class because it is also a GD req. UNLESS they allow me to substitute the GD with something else, 1 will have 4 studios (including "Interface" for Interdisciplinary studio) and a Media history class. Otherwise, I'll just drop off the other waived out GD class and take another Visual Studies. Very excited for the line up, especially with GD and Interface.

Got to go to class

Later

p/s: I made curry noodles enough to feed 20 people and still have leftovers :P

Saturday, March 20

Headache

So... theres this whole refund thing going on for the housing. Regardless of when I come back, I'm not going to get a full refund unless my housemates can find housing before a certain date in July. So should I come back early anyway? Or should I just stay until Sept 1? It's going to be the same price regardless. Then, there's this dilemma on purchasing the flight because it lands at SFO at 10.00pm <-- take a taxi? Or stay in the airport until next morning? BLARGH! I'm going to do hw!

Just had my art history test an hour ago. I don't know. If you asked me, it was a 50-50 because it was essay questions. It sort of reminded me of the world religion class that I had with Mr. V few years ago. Nevertheless, hoping for the best. To trash with the cave paintings and et cetera. I went back to the whole sleep-wake up-sleep pattern during the glory days of SPM. HAH! I think it worked somewhat. And I "inked" the edge of my pillow. Yikes!

Now, I am going to have to work on my paper and mood board that is due tomorrow. Maybe a little prep for critique tomorrow with the cups and the mood board. Then, probably try and get started with 4D since it does feel like it's editing is going to be a pain.

Note to self. Got to call SL, meet with advisor tomorrow/the day after to plan.

Almost

end of the mid-terms... (with the exception of art history)

So far so good for the other classes, well, except for the disappointment with the A- for my modern art midterms. Anyway, I've heard from my 4D teacher that I've been the only one who has successfully obtained a 100% for all my projects thus far. Just lacking in some other areas that were meant to encourage me to improve (funny conversation on this one). And like mentioned earlier, an A+ standing for 3D as well. As for diversity studio, I was told that I was doing well in class (not exactly sure what this means, but I'm sure that it won't be a bad thing).

It's monday!

This, I bought from a store at Downtown Berkeley with my friend. I have taken other pictures of a farmers market, as well as a flee market in Berkeley area with my DSLR and will upload it later. Of course, I took a picture of my frozen yogurt too, yummy! This jacket is VERY WARM :)

This is a "ticket" for ice-skating session. Fell down twice, on my knees. It's got bruises all over right now :( Nevertheless, it was fun!

This is my dinner tonight. Since I bought rice wine, I had that all over the noodles. Yummy! I am beginning to think that dad's secret ingredient is rice wine cause it tasted almost the same as the ones he made. Ingredients include Napa Cabbage, Fish Balls, garlic, and Spring Onions (I bought this for fried rice last night <-- forgot to take picture, was very delicious- I cooked for 6-7 people! :O) Seasoned it with a lil bit of salt, soy sauce, and rice wine :)

Today, I also went to buy the flu medicine tablet. Costs more then 20 bucks. Heartache! :((((( On the other hand, I've had good remarks from my teacher from another class. Almost perfect score :) But could have done better :(

===

Cups have been glazed and are ready to fire. Alas, the final product will be "displayed" here. Tried to make a few more, but I think that I lost the patience, having done multiples over the last month. The repetitive thing that I posted up earlier has been removed from the klin, and it looked absolutely amazing. Will take a high-resolution picture some other day :) I'm sure all of you will like it!!! :)

Test....

was ok. I think

Well, our teacher told us that there was going to be 10 multiple choice questions, but then... due to some "technical difficulties", we only had 3 of those, and 17 other fill in the blank questions. The identification section was fairly easy.

Tuesday, February 16

Sorry!

I apologize for not updating the blog as regularly as I used to. So, here's a little update for the past (few?) weeks.

School has been all right. Nothing unusual in particular. For 3D, we've started to work with porcelin, as well as clay. I have been making lots of cups that would eventually be fired and glazed (then fired again).

For 4D, we're starting on Final Cut Pro and that would last for about a month. It's funny how I was trying to figure out what's wrong with the program and I was sort of cut off from what the teacher was teaching. Fortunately, I was able to understand the idea that my teacher had in mind, and that had made it a whole lot easier (working with the program). I think I am going to enjoy using this program as I uncover the many functions and effects that it has to offer.

History classes, on the other hand, has been relatively interesting. I will be having my midterm for Modern Arts this thursday (cross your fingers), then Art History in about 2-3 weeks later. We have started on Buddhism (India) in class today. It is funny how I was asked to explain a little bit about the life of Buddha. I was kind of surprised, nevertheless, thrilled to be able to share my very limited knowledge of The One that was once known as Siddharta Gautama. However, it is unfortunate that I haven't been able to recall much of the details (hoping that this class would do the trick).

Last but not least, the Athena Project has had its ups and downs. Lots of paper in the near future, along with lots of hyper kids (which may, or may not be a good thing). I don't exactly know the direction of this class, but as usual, hoping for the best

Midterm reviews are this week, and I am somewhat excited to know what my teachers have to say about my performance in class thus far.

Weekend was spent in Chinatown as usual. In addition to that, I was taking lots of pictures due to the fact that it was the CNY weekend. And like I expected, there were lots of CNY decorations and items all over Chinatown. Did my usual grocery shopping, and convinced myself to buy a couple of things that I would have not had considered buying if it was not for CNY (chinese sausages, "lin go", and coconut shreds to make the dessert) The dessert turned out really well and was gone by the next day (obviously, some other people had slices and what not) I think I might try to see if they are selling the left overs so that I can make a second round of it before it goes obsolete for the next 12 months of the year. (p/s: pictures are on FB)

On Sunday, we went to town (SF) for pillow fight. Being the photo freak that I am, I was too busy trying to take photos that I have had no time to join in the mess (like yeah.. MESS). Basically, there were lots of pillows, people, hitting on each other. It was funny how 4 little kids were attacking an adult over and over again, to the point that the elder gave up and stayed on the floor. So yea, that was that, and I shall upload the pictures once I filter them some other time this weekend.

Just yesterday I made a all in one tofu, egg, tomato, minced meat dish that was absolutely delish. I shall upload the photo (like the usual hp quality ones) when I get home.

This weekend will be fun because of the dumpling party, which I am totally going to go to, since the CNY parade at SF will be on the weekend after. I am really excited because dumpling parties has never failed me in the past :)

Back to my history book. Before that,

Happy Chinese New Year

Take care

So, ISAP is hosting an exhibition of works by international students. I was thinking about making something--I was thinking along the lines of shadow puppets. Problem is that I've been trying to alter the idea so that I spend the absolute minimum with this project. I think I'm getting there--but of course, I'll need to be willing to actually spend the time to make it.

Need to start studying for art history classes, as well as start with the writing assignments for the Athena Project (diversity studio), as well as the up and coming 4D assignment.

For 4D, we were required to get a 500-1TB hard disk (they actually recommended Lacie) - it costs approx. 150USD. I don't know if I should get it. Maybe me techno savvy cousin could give me some suggestions. As far as I'm concerned, the only pro is being that it transfers faster when I work with video. Also, I think I would rather invest the money on a new battery. But then, of course, getting more portable space isn't a bad idea (I don't know if its cheap).<-- I'll be waiting for your response

Wicked

I was touched, watching the play all over again. Naturally, there are differences in the singing style (since the casts varies from place to place). Nevertheless, I had a great time. For some odd reasons, I was exceptionally fascinated my stage play, particularly, the use of lights and props to achieve certain effects. I particularly liked the part where the "wicked witch" was floating in the sky. The effects were a little different from the ones that I saw previously (in Chicago, the version that I prefer). It seemed like they have added additional light sources to create the effect. Other notable mentions are the use of spot light that created shadows that were enclosed by the same light source. It was an interesting phenomenon for me. And of course, I was fascinated by their ability to project their voices according to the needed volume.

All in all, great stuff!

I ate 8 pieces of noodles

IN 2 MEALS...

That ought to tell you how tasty that dish was :D

Am thinking of a few ideas for exhibition for international students. Not mandatory, but thought that it'd be fun to do something. So far, I've thought of things that are generally 3 dimensional

• sculpture of a skull with the multi-ethnic theme, with detailed smaller faces that shapes the contour of the face
• modern wayang kulit with movable parts

lets see if I end up doing any of it

Cheers!

Dinner

was delicious! I had to fry 3 separate times. Just goes to show the amount of noodles I decided to cook :P
